Using "$x = $a === $b;" would help if you had to compare $a against $b more than one time.

MySQL was never used. Maybe if you combined it with a good ACL - http://www.good-tutorials.com/track/35968 - we would have a nice little system.
This could be a bit more cooler if done another way.
