Tutorial goal:
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make an Australian Aboriginal painting. The aboriginals used topics like native animals, hunters, the image of their hand or weapons to decorate things. Most times in earthly colours, with lots of brown and orange. I used the face of a girl, so it wouldn’t look like a copy of their art. But with the same decorative dots, colours and spirit.

step 1
Take a photo of your choice. Very detailed images don’t work very well, because you need big fields. I used a photo from www.sxc.hu.

step 2
Duplicate the background layer. Right-click on the layer, select duplicate layer.
Click ok.
The reason we make a new background layer is to make it easier to correct mistakes. You can always delete the new layer or make it invisible for a few actions.

step 3
Select the background copy.
Go to filter>artistic>cutout

step 4
Click ok.

step 5
Edit>fade cutout
Lower the opacity till the photo gets devided in clear parts.
Click ok.
