Updating comments

Posted over 10 years ago

Tonight I went in and cleaned up the look of comments a little bit more. I think they're a bit cleaner overall now. I also wanted a way to identify moderators and myself (for those of you who don't know me) so that tutorial authors can know where the feedback's coming from, so to speak. Hopefully that will reduce some confusion in the future.

In other words, I just wanted to make comments a little more discussion-like, which is a direction we'll be heading more towards over the coming weeks and months.

Comment away. :)

...and for those of you who are just interested in seeing the update right away, well, this is a comment in the new styling. :)

That's pretty cool, it looks quite a bit better this way. I've also noticed that this style of comment formatting is being used more often now.

Scoreee lol Looks very nice, goes with the theme of the site.

Time to see that bar on the left get very big with some comments. :)

Just need some nice emoticons now lol.

Actually that's a good point, Tanz. I was playing around with the concept of allowing more formatting in posts (most likely through Textile or Markdown formatting), but I'm still a bit wary about all of that; I want comments to lend themselves to discussions, not spamming links or crazy formatting. On the other hand, the Good-Tutorials community has been great so far, and I've had no problems with that, so it doesn't trouble me too much. We'll see how things pan out (and if people start asking me about it enough, lol).

Emoticons could be nifty... maybe I'll toss them in there at some point, too.

I think just the features that we had on the old wordpress blog were good enough. Just text formatting, [underline, bold, italics and strike], and then quote and emoticons were quite good.

Don't know by memory if you have links enabled or not but I think they are.

I'd be happy with just those to be honest.

Comments look a lot better now :)

Yea, I think that some basic codes like bold, underline, italic, URL (could be handy to point out places on the site) sounds like a good idea, but smilies and images can get quite spammy (in my opinion).
